Case Study: Rebuilding The Computer Shack’s Website (Gander, NL)
How VinRaven Studio approached a real Gander IT & retail site - phone-first CTAs, local proof, and after-hours chat - with permission from The Computer Shack.
The Computer Shack has served Gander since 2002 - repairs, sales, and the kind of trust you only get from showing up on time with printers and networks. Their site needed to feel like that shop: local, direct, easy to call, and useful after the door is locked.
This write-up is about a rebuild preview done with their permission. It is not a claim about their old analytics. It is about what a trade/retail site in Central Newfoundland should do in 2026.
Problems most small IT shop sites share
- Desktop-era layouts that bury the phone number on mobile.
- Generic stock-photo energy that could be any franchise.
- No path for after-hours visitors except a contact form that goes to nowhere.
- Weak proof - reviews and “we’ve been here since…” buried or missing.
What we designed toward
- Phone-first CTAs - tap to call is the product for a repair shop.
- Clear services and “what to bring / what to expect” so fewer tire-kickers.
- Local proof: years in Gander, real customer language, copper-and-shop atmosphere instead of purple SaaS templates.
- Chat after hours so a dead laptop at 8 p.m. still becomes a ticket or lead.
Front desk + website is the point
A pretty site that goes quiet overnight still loses work. Studio builds the pages; VinRaven can sit on top as the AI front desk - answering from shop knowledge, capturing leads, and handing you threads in a dashboard. That combination is what we mean by “the site answers while you are on a house call.”
Studio builds start from $1,200 with a fixed quote in writing. Optional Build + front-desk packages put chat on day one.
If you run a shop in Gander, Corner Brook, St. John’s, or anywhere in Atlantic Canada and your site still behaves like a PDF brochure, that is the rebuild brief.
