Heat pump service

Ductless and mini-split systems are most of the new heat on the Avalon, and most of them are asked to work in wet cold they were not commissioned for. We clean, diagnose, and tell you honestly when a top-up is not the answer.

01

What brings people to us

  • Outdoor unit iced over and not clearing after a defrost cycle
  • Weak airflow indoors, or air that never gets properly warm
  • Musty or sour smell from a ductless head
  • New banging, buzzing, screeching, or vibration
  • Water tracking down a wall under the indoor head
  • Cooling is weak in summer, or was never right after install
02

What we actually check

  • Defrost board operation and outdoor coil airflow
  • Indoor coil condition and drain trap
  • Refrigerant behaviour, rather than assuming a top-up is needed
  • Contactors, capacitors, and outdoor fan for noise complaints
  • Drainage routing that freezes on outdoor lines in winter

When to shut it off

Shut the system down if the coil is a solid block of ice, if indoor airflow has gone weak, or if you hear grinding. Light frost in cold humid weather can be normal, and a defrost whoosh once or twice an hour is normal. Thick ice that survives a defrost cycle is not. If you smell burning electrical or rubber, shut it off and open a ticket.

Typical ranges
